Media’s Interpretation of Global Warming A major problem and controversy that’s continuing to build up in the world, is global warming. There are two opposing sides to this controversy. One side are scientists and environmentalists who use collective data in order to prove that global warming is real and caused by human activity. The opposing side are interests groups such as an oil company or individual, who believe that global warming is just a bogus subject and misleading information put together by the media. The mass media plays an important role in this controversy because it continues to show information from both sides of the argument, leading to a standstill. The new era of digital communication is where the media influences a lot of people into either believing that humans are the cause of global warming or that they aren’t. A perfect example of a news website that supports global warming, is called Live Science. Live Science posts many scientific stories and information that have to do with current events. A few examples of some of the different kinds of news stories that Live Science posted that connects to global warming, are polar bears in the northern regions struggling to survive, record breaking droughts in California, and large amounts of ice caps melting in Antarctica (Global Warming). In this situation, the media is trying to show that human activity is what’s causing these negative events.
